Pain Between Shoulder Blades: What Is It?

The scapula, which is also known as the shoulder blade, refers to the bone structure located in the upper back of the body, which also connects the arm to the chest wall, or thorax. The scapula also forms part of the socket, connecting the upper arm to the socket. The scapula is generally surrounded by tissues and muscles, which act like a padding to protect the bone structure, as well as allow the shoulders to move smoothly. What exactly causes the pain between shoulder blades?

What are the treatment suggestions for ankle and neck pains for someone with Crohn’s disease?

Question:

I have been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. I am on prednisone because of the flare up and having too much pain in and around the area where leg ends and feet starts (I am not sure what that area is referred to). I find it hard to stand and walk. I also have pain in the neck. Please suggest as to what treatment is given in that case.

Answer:

The easiest part of your question to answer is regarding the area of pain you are describing. I believe you are thinking of your ankle. Haha.

Now, as far as treatment goes it does depend on what we actually think is happening at the neck and the ankle areas. As you have no doubt learned, Crohn’s disease is a condition involving inflammation of the digestive track. With that, there are a number of issues that can develop in the track itself. However, there are also a number of extra-intestinal complications that could develop. One of these included flare up’s of arthritic joints.

Know More About That Shooting Leg Pain

Our legs are vital body tools. They keep us up and going, and allow us to walk or run. However, when the legs feel pain, it can have a debilitating effect on our daily activities. Shooting leg pain usually feels like a burning or tingling sensation, which is prominent in the calf muscles. While it is mostly felt in the calf muscles, it may also mean that the problem is not just located in the leg, and may be the result of other underlying causes. The shooting pain in the leg may be related to other conditions such as fibromyalgia, sciatica or blood circulation issues.

Identifying Your Options: Physiotherapy For Spine Injuries

Spinal cord injuries can be a consequence of serious accidents or activities. These are very serious and debilitating and may lead to paralysis and disability. There are different types of spine lesion and associated paralysis. Physiotherapy for spine injuries depends on the type of damage that has been inflicted to the spinal cord. Paraplegia and quadriplegia are terms used to describe the disability resulting from the injuries.

I hurt my ankle while playing volleyball, what do I have to do?

Question:

Today, I was playing volleyball with my friends and then a moment later just as I jumped to hit the ball, I fell down on my ankle in the wrong way. I am still feeling pain in my foot. So what should I do?

Answer:

If the pain began during a jumping motion it is likely that you just strained a tendon (structures that attach muscle to bone). As the injury is still in the acute phase (i.e. the first 72 hours or so) I would suggest cooling the area down a few times a day. A gel ice pack or even a frozen bag of peas works just great! Do not put the ice pack directly on skin. It is better to use a towel or other barriers to just cool the area as opposed to completely freeze the area.

Getting to Know the Common Stroke Symptoms

Stroke nowadays is fairly common. It is one of the leading causes of death around the world.

Stroke, by definition, is the death of brain cells due to inadequate oxygen supply. This can be due to a number of causes such as blockage, narrowing and hardening of arteries that bring oxygenated blood to the brain.

Stroke symptoms depend on the area of the brain that is affected with oxygen deprivation as well as the amount of tissue damage. Cells need oxygen in order to perform their proper function. The brain cells, when deprived of such an essential need will cease to function, thus leading to stroke.

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy and Women

The pelvic muscles support a woman’s womb, colon and other internal organs. The muscles in the pelvic floor stretches like a hammock from the tail bone to the pubic bone. It is therefore important to keep your pelvic floor muscles fit and strong. Pelvic floor physiotherapy will help ease your pains and aches when your muscles get weakened.

There are several factors that make your muscles in the pelvic grow weaker. Some of these are pregnancy, heavy lifting, being overweight as well as lack of general fitness. Pelvic floor physiotherapy will aid in evaluating your condition, recognize your symptoms and work out a program that is right for you.

I am a physically active 33-year old female diagnosed with Osteoarthritis. What are my options?

Question:

I am a very physically active 33 year-old female. I presently instruct two different high-cardio aerobic classes, 2-3 times per week.

When I was 16, I was involved in an auto injury wherein I fractured my right knee patella - the break was apparently a clean break in two, right down the center of the patella. Surgery to repair the kneecap was done with 2 pins and a figure-eight wire configuration. In 2000, the pins and wire broke and began to cause issues. I then had the majority of the hardware removed (a small portion of a pin remains lodged in my right patella).

Where can I get a second opinion on my lower back pain?

Question:

Hi, I have been suffering from lower back pain for a couple of weeks. I think hurt myself while doing abs on an incline abs table. I always felt tightness and stretch in my right leg, which are the same areas where I am experiencing pain right now. I went for physiotherapy and was diagnosed with sciatica since initially I had pain in my buttock and knee area without any pain in my back. Pain in buttock is gone but now I have been feeling tightness and dull pain in my lower back and on the left side of my right leg, in the knee area, which comes and goes. My physiotherapist checked me again, after couple of weeks of physio, and said that the damage to my back is permanent and I would not be able to bend backward. What do you suggest I should do to get proper diagnosis and be pain free?

Answer:

Hello,

Thank you for your question. I am always a little hesitant to dispute what a physiotherapist has suggested to people who email us as I, of course, have very little information about your injury. That being said, I would question the idea of suggesting permanent impairment after such a short course of therapy.

Herniated Disc: What is the recommended treatment course?

Question:
Hi, I have a herniated disc and a hip that seems to be out of place. Any recommendation for treatment?

Answer:

Hello,

Thank you for your question. You are not alone. A herniated disc in the low back is not all that unusual. In fact, it’s quite common. Most of the people reading this answer have some degree of disc herniation at some level in their spine. With this knowledge in mind, it is possible that your pains are not at all related to the herniation. You will need a health care professional devoted to working with orthopedic injuries to assess you and decide what is that causing pain and therefore what exactly to treat.

Home Tele-Rehabilitation System for Stroke Patients

A stroke can be debilitating and a patient may lose motor functions as a result. Retraining to bring back these lost capacities is often a long and rigorous process. It involves comprehensive and repetitive movements which demand the patient’s focus in order to re-establish new neurological connections.

What can be done for a sciatic type of pain in my left buttock?

Question:

I had a large stroke about a year ago and am doing fairly well except for a sciatic type of pain in left buttock. Can you help me?

Answer:

Hi,

Sounds like you recovered really well! That is great to hear.

There are a few things that could have left you with the pains you are describing. The most likely culprit secondary to a stroke, stems from a loss of muscle control for those muscles that are suppose to stabilize your spine and your hips.

8 Tips to Headache Relief

The most common complaint of all professionals and working people is nothing more than a headache. While headache may sometimes be caused by serious disorders, usual causes are plain muscular tension due to stress. For instance, people who work for long hours in front of their PC’s may be very likely to suffer from tension headaches at the end of the day. But that headache relief is just around the corner and is even simpler than most sufferers know. However, even though most headaches do not originate from a grave condition, the pain may, at times, be very debilitating. Some would even have to be bedridden for several hours or days.
