What could be causing this pain on the outside of my right ankle, just under the ankle bone?

Question:

Hi! I want to know about what causing the pain on the outside of my right ankle which is under the ankle bone every time I walk. I did this playing football after I blocked a shot whilst defending so that my right ankle turned towards the left. I had some swelling after and the pain was really bad. Do you know what this could be?

Answer:

Haha, Sorry I am laughing at myself. It just took me a minute to understand how you “block” a shot in football! Of course you don’t mean American football. Funny.

Okay, with respect to your injury. From the mechanism of injury you describe, it is likely that you an inversion ankle sprain. Same idea as rolling your ankle except that in your case your foot was pushed through the “roll” by the ball instead of your body moving over your ankle with it planted on the ground.

What Causes Pain in Leg? What Experts Say

Leg pain is one of the most usual complaints of many people and such complaint is one of the reasons why the afflicted could not perform even basic tasks. The condition is an impediment to mobility. It could range from a manageable pain to a debilitating ordeal. But why are many people suffering from such affliction? And what causes pain in leg?

While leg pain may be commonly attributed to an injury, there are a lot of disorders that lead to such condition. A muscle cramp causes some of the frequent episodes of leg pain. Leg cramps can be due to dehydration, electrolyte loss, medication, and muscle fatigue.

An injury to the leg would obviously cause pain such as in the case of a pulled or torn muscle. Fractures of the any of the leg bones cannot go unnoticed. They are usually presented by sharp pain. An inflammation of a tendon is another source of disabling pain.

Identifying the Usual Symptoms of Peripheral Neuropathy

Peripheral neuropathy is a problem that afflicts the peripheral nervous system – the network of nerves that branches out from the brain and spinal cord. These nerves serve to transmit messages, impulses, and information to and from the central nervous system.

Neuropathy is a term that combines two roots meaning “nerve” and “abnormal.” The symptoms of peripheral neuropathy can vary depending on the type of nerve that is affected. There are three major types of nerves: sensory nerves, which carry sensory impulses; motor nerves, which command muscles; and autonomic nerves, which transmit information to glands and vital organs.
Peripheral neuropathy means that the nerves no longer work as they should. The manifestations include pain, numbness, and loss of muscular control. When the nerves leading to the vital organs are affected, loss of normal organ function is the result.

Pain Between Shoulder Blades: An Overview of the Causes

Pain between shoulder blades can be due to a number of reported factors. In many cases the pain occurs as a result of inflammation of the tissues near the scapulae. For instance, heavy and straining activities could take a toll on one’s muscles surrounding the shoulder blades. Many instances of such reported complaints are musculoskeletal in origin in which tendons, joints and ligaments are involved. Other cases involve infections or cancerous growths within the region.

Nevertheless, not all the pain felt around the area is where the main problem originates. There are a number of cases when patients complain of back pain between the scapulae but with no visible injury or disorder at the aching site. Such cases are often considered to be “referred pain,” in which other organs that are not located in the area result in pain in the region.

Headache Relief: What You Need to Know

There are different types of headache relief. Tension headache is a result of the contraction of the muscles around your skull and is closely associated with stress. Your blood flow to the head decreases, so you feel the “thud” in your temples, forehead or throughout the head. Regular massage may help relieve your muscles of the spasms.

What Happens During An Orthopedic Inspection of Knee Pain

When you have a history of knee injury or pain, you have to undergo an orthopedic inspection of knee pain. The first thing your doctor will do is go over your medical history. He will probably ask you about the various pains and aches you have experienced as well the mechanisms of injury. Also, he will inquire about previous attempts in treating knee problems as well surgery.

The physician then begins his physical examination of your knee by comparing the aching knee with the asymptomatic knee. He will check for swelling, bruising and discoloration. The muscles of the knees should be symmetric bilaterally.

Lower Back Pain Exercises You Can Do At Home

Lower back pain exercises are not complicated. They can be done at home without a need for any special equipment. Muscle strain or injury cause lower back pains. The muscles of the back, stomach and buttocks support the spine against gravity. They are also referred to as core muscles.

Some examples of exercises for lower back pain are back stretch exercises and back strengthening exercises. Stretching must be done in a daily basis whereas strengthening exercises can be done three to four times a week. Before indulging in any form of lower back pain exercise, you must first do a warm-up. This way your muscles will not be strained during the exercises.
