“This is a very tough question to answer.  You see, the effectiveness of a cortisone injection varies from person to person, injury to injury. Some individuals experience pain relief almost immediately after an injection, whereas others may get pain relief within a few days of the injection, and some may not have any success with such an injection.”

cortisoneinjection How Effective Are Epidural Cortisone Injections For a Pinched Nerve?When nerves (nerve roots) are pinched/compressed they become inflamed and a source of pain. Pain can be localized to the spine or radiate into the arm or leg (depends on spinal region affected). The intention of the epidural is to inject anti-inflammatory medication (cortisone) over the pinched nerve to decrease inflammation, and thereby reducing your pain.

The epidural may help reduce your symptoms, but at this point it is important to determine and treat the cause (herniated disc, bone spurs, degenerative disc disease, muscle imbalance) of your pinched nerve and begin a rehabilitation program with a physiotherapist to further enhance your healing and recovery, in addition to preventing a reoccurrence of this type of injury.
