What’s the fastest way to heal achilles tendonitis?
The timeframe for achilles tendonitis to recover is dependent on factors, such as your age, length of time your symptoms have been present, type(s) of recreational activities, occupation, etc.
There are some stretches and strengthening exercises as well as manual therapy techniques that can help speed up your recovery. However, a common and safe stretch involves pulling the foot and toes up gently to stretch the muscles at the back of the leg. Hold this position for about 10 seconds, repeat this 4 times. I had considered a steroid injection. But was told that it can increase the chances of rupturing teh tendon?? Not sure how true that is? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steroid

I am not aware of any research to support one cortisone shot will increase the likelihood of tendon rupture. Numerous injections exceeding the recommended frequency/year would be more likely the issue. However, studies are not showing inflammatory markers in these tendons. Studies are showing degenerative changes in the tendon that tend to respond well to the appropriate conservative management (in particular, physiotherapy) over a period of 3 to 18 months. There is a risk of further injury if achilles tendonosis is left untreated; age, general health, and activity level can be contributing factors to a rupture.
